I have a bit of a peculiar issue with games. I travel by train quite often, so a game that can keep my attention, while not requiring me to elbow my neighbors trying to use motion controls is a plus. And for this purpose, Pinball HD is king. For one, the game is darned near impossible at times, making it both frustrating and engaging. The simple controls, beautiful graphics and realistic physics really make this a great game.
#2 Dubble (April 2)
Dubble is simple, yet very addictive game where you pop bubbles in groups. It's a great time killer, and also easy to pick up and control.
#3 Super 7 (Universal) (April 22)
Super 7 is another simple, yet fun to play game, where you draw lines between numbers to draw them together to total the number 7.
If you group numbers over the total 7, you are done. My 6 year old loves it and my "older" friends find it challenging as well. That's quite a feat!
#4 Pebble Jump HD (May 20)
As with Super 7, Pebble Jump is engaging to many ages. The goal is to jump over pegs and finish at the goal on your last jump.
#5 Sailboat Chapionship HD (April 2)
This is a title that initially I thought was a bit of a dud. It is tough to get the hang of at first (and the full manual control option is something I never used),
but after a bit of practice, I couldn't put it down. One confession, I didn't actually buy the HD version, I just stuck with the iPhone version, which still
looks pretty great on the iPad.
#6 Reckless Racing (Oct 21)
This is a simple "top-down" racing game with beautiful graphics. It kept my boys entertained for a fair amount of time (which is tough to do) and entertained daddy as well.
#7 Fieldrunners HD (Mar 29)
This is another title where I stuck with the iPhone version (as I already owned it before the HD version came out.) Another great time killer in the form of tower defense.
#8 RealRacing HD (Mar 29)
This is one of the showcase games for the iPad. It's driving physics are really amazing for a handheld device. One note, Real Racing 2 for the iPhone is out now for the iPhone and the iPad version will definitely be out some time next year.
#9 NFS Hot Pursuit (Dec 8)
One of my more recent purchases, the NFS series is not as realistic as "Real Racing", but is pretty entertaining as well as having great graphics.
#10 Marble Mixer HD (April 02)
This is a children's title that is best played by a group of 4. It's a game where you flick marbles into a hole. But there is a good deal of technique involved if you really apply yourself (I usually have to "hold back" a bit when playing against my < 8 year old adversaries...)
As I mentioned in a previous question, there are apps available that can help you find when games are being discounted or free. This is how I ended up buying most everything on this list. And finally, buying the iPhone version of a game (when not universal) instead of the iPad version can often be much cheaper and in many cases, just as entertaining (though better graphics are always a plus!)
