Bio: Hello. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and look at my profile. I've been on Mahalo since mid February 2010. Although I came here to be a How To writer, I initially got hooked on Answers for a while. I'm trying to focus more on How To and Tasks now. But, I will still drop by Answers as often as I can.
I'm a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Certified Building Official (building, fire, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trades). My engineering expertise is in fire protection engineering and mechanical engineering. I have expert knowledge in all construction codes, modular construction, manufactured homes, NFPA Codes, life safety design, fluid and thermal systems, heat transfer, and engineering modeling and calculation. I also have experience working on aircraft carriers, large site built projects, and working with gas piping systems. I have a BSME from PSU and a Master's of Engineering (fire protection engineering) from UMD.
I've been studying, researching, and reading constantly for as long as I can remember. On top of that, I ask people questions whenever I can to glean as much information as possible about everything. In a way, I've been acting the way people do on Mahalo for my entire life--asking questions, researching to find answers (for myself), and answering other people's questions. Normally, I get on a "kick" regarding something and study, research and analyze it for at least a month, until I want to learn about something else.
The things I have researched quite deeply recently are: elements of spirituality and other religions, bipolar disorder and other mental health problems, nutrition, investing and economics, quantum physics, creative evolution, evolution, writing, writing online, SEO, various conspiracy theories, (backyard) astronomy, relationships, dating, differences between the sexes, several Theories of Everything (TOE) and many, many more.
In short, I'm always studying something on some sort of informal program. I was thinking about pursuing a Ph.D., but I'm not sure what to go for--oh, and I can't really afford it, I forgot about that one.
If I debate or argue with you on here, don't take it personally. I don't necessarily believe the viewpoints I present. To truly understand an issue fully, you have to know enough about it that you can take any side and argue convincingly. To meta-argue, you have to see a point beyond all the arguments that circumvents or connects all points and present such a viewpoint in a way that everyone can understand. It's very challenging and that's what I attempt to do.
I'm married, have two kids, and a dog. I can't figure out why I feel the same way, in terms of basic consciousness, as I did when I was 10 years old.
"I feel connected to all living things, to flowers, birds, to all the animals of the world and even to some great unseen living force, what I think the Hindus call prana."
Despite all my studying, research, contemplation, and endless thinking, I know next to nothing. However, I will do my best to help anyone, so send me a DQ if you think I can help you--a tip would be nice but it's certainly not required.
