If your iPad/iPod were going in a time capsule for 1000 years and you only have room for 3 Songs and 3 Apps, what would they be?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Songs:
1. What a Wonderful World - by Louis Armstrong
2. Unchained Melody - by Righteous Brothers
3. The Final Countdown - from Final Fantasy
Apps:
1. Xe - Get 118 elements of the periodic table at your fingertips. It might be helpful for those who will receive the iPad back after 1000 years. God knows if the existing civilizations will still remain or not. May be a new one emerge and it will benefit from the periodic table (will not need to discover them all over again).

2. WSJ - Abbreviated for Wall Street Journal. This will cater news from all around the world.

Hope you like them.

M$Thunderstruck - AC/DC
Cripple Creek - The Band
Ruby Soho - Rancid
The first two are for historical purposes, the last is for personal reasons, and in case I find myself in 3010, I know I'll be able to listen to Ruby Soho...provided no one dropped the iPad.
Apps...
-Plants vs Zombies: because it's a good game, and I'm sure it's simplicity will amuse the futuristic people of 3010.
-Awesome Notes: complete with notes about how Awesome I was in hopes people will revere me more from that point on.
-Skype: So they can call me in the past.
My warped sense of humor.

M$The first song I would send would be ''The Good Left Undone'' by Rise Against. I would want to pass this on because it's just an epic song. It shows one of the real sides of love. It shows that things aren't always black and white, sometimes you have to sacrifice and give part of yourself in order to do what's right. The song deals with the imperfections of relationships and how hard it is to be a human in those situations and still force yourself to let go. I think this is important for future generations to hear, because maybe it will give them a look into the passion, beauty and sadness that came along with some people in these past few generations.

I would have to send ''Barbie Girl'' by Aqua. I think it would be incredibly funny to see peoples' faces when they hear this. They'll think, "Did they really listen to this back then, or is it a joke?" I would want to say that it was all a big joke, but sadly, there are people in the world who listened to this seriously and liked it.

The last song I would send would be ''Stairway to Heaven'' by Led Zeppelin simply because it's the best song ever written. And, in case the future generations lost the last copy of this somehow, I want them to have it, and cherish it this time.

Ok, now apps. I'm going to focus on iPod applications because I'm more familiar with them.
1. Drugs and Medications - I think this is one of the most important apps out there. What if you drop all of your pills on the ground and can't tell some of them apart? That could be dangerous. Well, this lets you identify those pills and does a bunch of other cool things that I basically couldn't live without.
2. Google Earth would be next. I can never find my way around and I think a lot of people are like that. Everyone gets lost once in a while. This app is the best way of showing me where I am as well as pointing me in the right direction. It can also show terrain! Plus it's really high-tech in my opinion, and it might impress those future-people!
3. Free translator! Communication is key in society, and people are a little ignorant of that fact today. Sending a portable, free translator may help in breaking down language barriers, if they're still there, that is.
Great question!

M$Hey now, i LOVED Aqua! You can't mention that song without including the real video, which happens to be hilarious:
Reminded me of Len.... not that I can remember what their popular song was, but they had that one hit that lasted FOREVER!
1. The Future Soon by Jonathan Coulton. Because even in 3010 they'll be wondering what's coming up in their future.
2. Back in Time by Huey Lewis and the News. It's good to encourage the time travelers of the future to head back and visit us in the current so we can find out if these suggestions worked out.
3. Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas. This one's easy: in the song, the Peas say "I'm so three-thousand-and-eight, you're so two-thousand-and-late." In 3010 it will give the citizens of the future the chance to render the verdict we cannot - were the Peas actually "so 3008?"
Three Apps:
1. iBooks. I'm using a loophole for this one, as I'm assuming the data in the app could be carried forward as well. iBooks will give the people of the future the opportunity to read all of the books from this era that I've downloaded (and that have long since been lost to them due to the DRM-aware sentient robots taking over).
2. Canabalt. That way people of the future can compare the virtual task of running from distant robotic disaster to the everyday task of the same. It would be kind of like "The Sims" of 3010.
3. Google Voice. I assume by 3010 Apple will be within a few years of making a decision regarding whether to approve the Google Voice app.

M$Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley
SexyBack - Justin Timberlake
I Want it That Way - Backstreet Boys
As for apps, the Google Voice app for sure, it's the pinnacle of useful voice technology. In addition to that, I'd choose Pandora - that's just a no-brainer. And finally I'd choose Netflix.

M$That being said, for songs I'd pick:
• "Poker Face" Lady Gaga
• "We are the World" (the original)
• "We are the World" (the remake)
and for apps, I'd say:
• TextPlus
• World Fact Book 2010
• TweetDeck
And then I would dream about hearing (first) the college presentation tours about how they interpret the meanings of those items; & (second) what would, another 30-40 years later, have become "truth" taught to grade-school kids about the "Twitter-Age Americans".
I almost said the Mahalo app, just for brownie points, but why bother giving them something everyone 1000 years from now are sure to already use many times a day!

M$1. Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton: Islands in the Stream
2. Fisherspooner: Emerge
3. Van Halen: Jump
Apps I'd go for:
1. Evernote
2. Bejeweled
3. Google Maps
I'd be pretty happy with that, even if there were no other apps, like bread and butter.

M$1. "Leavin on a Jet Plane" as covered by Mos Def.
2. "Sex Machine" by James Brown
3. "Amazing Grace" as covered by Ani Difranco
These three songs because they seem to me to symbolize what the planet will need to repopulate itself and survive 1000 years in the future and these three songs are thoughtful representations of the themes they represent. The kids in the future will need memories of transportation, sex, and amazing grace to offer hope in that one day they will be freed from their cryogenic sleep chambers and/or suspended animation bubbles if they could afford it.
For apps I would choose. (I did not know the iPad served food)
1. Buffalo Wings - extra spicy
2. Loaded Beef Nachos with Guacamole and sour cream
3. Spinach and Artichoke Dip as made by Alton Brown of the Food Network
These three apps because the importance of the recipes needed to make these delicious apps would be a necessity to future generations living on dehydrated food and the other hydroponic foodstuff creations made from the bounty of the less than fertile soil the Earth. The remembrance of these flavors and a time when they were popular should help to refocus the planet on taste over nutrition again therefore returning the Earth to a more tasty time.
Does the iPad need to be tipped or is it included in the hybrid data/food plan?
