Does GPS work with disabled 3G?

I want to buy the WiFi+3G model because I want to use GPS. I don't know whether I will use 3G or not, so I would rather not buy a 3G plan at first. Do I have to enable 3G to use GPS?

Is it true that the iPad is sold unlocked? So, I first buy the iPad and than choose whether to use a 3G plan or not?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The AGPS chipset is fully functional on the 3G iPad out of the box without having to sign up for a data plan. There is no AGPS chipset in the WiFi only iPad so any seperate data-connection solution will not give you full GPS on a WiFi only unit. Purchasing an iPad 3G does not require you to sign up with AT&T for a data plan.
